Shamall – the official pages

Following the internationally successful double album “Schizophrenia,” another highlight is planned for the end of the year. If all goes according to plan, a new album by Shamall titled “The Funeral of Empathy” is set to be released in late 2026 or early 2027. A front cover and a back cover have already been unveiled. We will be sharing more details over the coming weeks.
c/o Gabor Kleinbloesem, Strutter’zine, NL The German band SHAMALL has a long history, but in short, it learns that it started in the early 1970s when a young NORBERT KRÜLER began listening to the records of LED ZEPPELIN, JIMI HENDRIX, PINK FLOYD, and those of German Krautrock bands. He started training to learn and play the songs of his new ‘heroes’ by himself, and during the 1970s he got involved in the German rock scene, and eventually, when he started to record his own material in the mid/late 1980s, the SHAMALL band or project was born. He has achieved quite…
c/o Rock City Magazine, Bremen In times like these (streams, poor CD sales, hardly any loyalty to the bands—except in hard rock/heavy metal), “value for money” is particularly important. The fans should get real pleasure from the product CD. With the new double album by Shamall, the package is extremely impressive: a double-folding digipak, a lavish booklet, and, with 22 songs, a playing time potential that has been fully exploited. And the 18-minute opener and, at the same time, title track is a real reference song for the prog rock/krautrock band from Germany. Massive, with furious build-up, absolutely perfectly produced,…
Rock City: Tell our readers in a short summary about the band history of Shamall! Norbert: 40 years of DJing at the Aladin in Bremen—of course that leaves traces! In short words, you could say that in 1984 my first musical synthesizer experiments started—at that time the project was still nameless. Even before I became a DJ, I was touring as an opener for many bands in Germany (for example, Grobschnitt, Eloy, Kraan, Birth Control, and Kin Ping Meh). So Shamall was actually just a return to the passion of my youth, to bring more creativity into my everyday DJ…
c/o Sluchacz, Akademia Art Rocka (PL) German progressive rock is not very popular in our country. However, it turns out that sometimes it is worth looking for it. Recently, one of my friends recommended the latest album by Shamall to me, with the title “Schizophrenia.” The band name didn’t tell me much, although Norbert Krüler, the Westphalian bandleader, has been composing for over 30 years and has recorded more than 20 albums. Initially, he was engaged in electronic music. Later he turned to art rock, when at the beginning of the new millennium he opened a new chapter in his…
c/o Andrew Cottrell, Background Magazine, NL Shamall is the pseudonym used by German DJ, multi-instrumentalist, and composer Norbert Kruler, who released his first work in the late 1980s, influenced by Krautrock as well as mainstream electronic music, although over time he has been more heavily influenced by the progressive music scene and has incorporated a range of acoustic instruments to better expand the musical palette. Schizophrenia is his 15th release of recorded work, and weighing in at 2.5 hours’ worth over 2 CDs, it is an absolute monster. Given the length and the heavyweight subject matter, this is never going…
c/o Progwereld, Dick van der Heijde Norbert Krüler was born in Emsdetten on 6 December 1957. But if you look at Wikipedia, you won’t find him among the famous citizens of Emsdetten, and that’s definitely wrong. Krüler is not only a highly talented multi-instrumentalist, with keyboards as his main instrument; he can also compose and produce as well as the best. His career has been going on for almost 50 years now. A flashback: In the 70s, the young musician uses a few radio sounds, a microphone, and his acoustic guitar to create a series of sound fragments, which bring…
c/o Tiro from Prog Censor “Shamall—Schizophrenia”: Prog/Electro/Rock/Classic: 77’01 / 73’27, Germany ’19. I have to tell you right at the beginning that Shamall, despite his career of over 35 years, has disappeared under my radar. And so I find it difficult to discuss this album with a nostalgic view on it. It’s even more difficult because the album I’m to talk about to you is a gigantic work, 22 tracks for 2h31 of music. So I cannot give a detailed account of each piece but rather an overview of this musical masterpiece, which, even after more than a whole month…
Interview with Norbert Krüler: “We are all no angels.” Shamall traces the ecological inconsistencies of our actions. By Walter Sehrer Norbert Krüler, aka Shamall, had gathered enough anger in addition to creative abundance to present a new double CD concept album to mankind. On “Schizophrenia,” he deals with all kinds of self-tormenting thoughts: “The whole album is about this socio-political, but also everyday schizophrenia. Actually, we all know exactly what should be done, but then we are masters at looking away and not taking action. Just take plastic waste as an example of environmental pollution. Where do all the yellow…
A new double CD by “Shamall” has been released / Videos on YouTube Natural phenomena like wind, rain, or maybe a little stardust at the beginning of a piece of music are not uncommon. Probably the most famous example is “Riders on the Storm” by the Doors, in whose opening sequence thunder and lightning compete for attention in addition to rain. The atmosphere of the song is therefore given. The band “Shamall” also uses sound elements of this kind. On their new double CD “Schizophrenia,” however, no heavenly floodgates are opened, but all the more rocking, emotional, psychedelic, and spiritual…
